3. Items for discussion
- Grants: application from Canberra Python User Group
- The request is for $1500 to fund catering for 10 meetings with 20-30 attendees.
- Feedback from members: three supported the grant. One was reluctant due to the consumable nature of what is being funded.
Motion: That the council approves a grant of $1,500 to fund catering at the Canberra Python User Group meetings.
Moved by: Joel
Seconded: Jonathan
Result: passed with three abstentions.
- RSAA26 conference sponsorship request
We have supported a $500 accessibility fellowship as a grant in 2024. They are now suggesting a sponsorship arrangement as an accessibility partner for $1,800. The connection to and benefit for our community seems a little tenuous.
There is a connection, and they do emphasise that Research Software is developed using open source software and is released as software.
Council will seek more input from our membership once we have confirmed with the conference organisers that they are happy with a public discussion.
Jonathan will contact the organisers.
- Face to Face meeting
Key Dates 2026
We will hold the face to face meeting in Canberra on the weekend of 13 – 14 June. We will look for accommodation (probably an AirBnB) for those visiting Canberra. Four council members have their own accommodation but ideally the chosen venue will be suitable for holding discussions.
