3. Items for discussion
- EO2027 and 2028 – Draft EOI Email
Dear community,
It is time to start planning the Everything Open conferences in 2027 and 2028. Linux Australia would like to hear from people who are interested in bringing the conference to their city, or being a part of the organising team for the conference. Even if you are not at the point of being able to put in a complete bid we would like to hear from you. The Linux Australia Council will be happy to assist in polishing/completing a bid.
At this stage we’re not expecting you to have a finalised bid. The Linux Australia Council would be happy to help you work towards preparing a bid and can help put you in touch with people who have experience in running past Everything Open conferences. If you are interested in running an Everything Open, please send an email to Council with details on the host city you are thinking of and a list of team members who would like to be involved.
Key Dates:
* Expressions of Interest for 2027 Conference by 29 March 2026
* Expressions of Interest for 2028 Conference by 12 April 2026
If you have any further questions, please contact Council via email and we will help where we can.
- Grants
Jonathan can open the grants program as soon as a suitable sender address is identified for grant posts to linux-aus and that address has been subscribed to linux-aus.
We will use grant-applications@linux.org.au. Jonathan will send a test email using that address.
4. Items for noting
5. Other business
- Should we nominate the ANZ LA Primary account to be the sponsorship account for NZ conferences, so we have one in NZ and one in AU to cover the conferences across both countries?
For sponsors who sponsor conferences in both countries this is likely to cause confusion. For sponsors who only sponsor conferences in New Zealand the conference should use the conference bank account..
We should write a guide for conference organisers as to how this all works once we have advice from our NZ accountant about GST in New Zealand.
The guide should have a list of big companies and which account they are directed to use.
That way all the conferences can check the list and use the appropriate invoice details
- Drupal South / NZ GST
Motion: That Linux Australia seeks advice from its NZ accountant as to when GST applies to invoices issued by conferences in New Zealand and that payment of a fee up to $1,000 is authorised.
Proposed by: Russell Stuart
Seconded by: Neill Cox
Result: Passed
- Face to Face meeting
Should we move this to mid year as Easter is getting very close?
We should start work on an agenda for the meeting.
