SLUG AGM

On April 26th we held an AGM for the SLUG sub-committee and the following results where found. Recording can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjGapMKM0Ic

General report:

Nothing to report, no events happened apart from monthly meetings.
Meeting in March was not held due to poor communication.
Membership continues to decline.
Website is in disrepair and mailing lists barely functioning.
Need membership to step up and make things happen.
Does seem to be enough talks to keep doing talk format, agreed to keep the same format for now.

Both myself and Patrick are standing down from the committee.

I will remain being the SLUG contact at Google and hosting the event here at Google.
Patrick has committed to investigating what PLUG has done to increase membership.

Robert Smit <rmsmit05@gmail.com> stood up to be on the committee at the meeting.
Jiří Baum <jiri@baum.com.au> stood up to take a look at website and other administration issues. Agreed to join the committee too.

PyCon Au 2013 status report

So here's where we've achieved in April:

- Registrations have been open for a month now, we're about to equal
our record for Early Bird registrations, and should reach out limit of
80 Early Bird tickets this week.
- Our CFP closed in early April, presentation submissions were up 25%
-- a record haul by quite some amount. International interest has
increased a lot too, benefiting from on-the-ground promotion I did at
PyCon US in March (many thanks to the Python Software Foundation for
funding my trip).
- We've announced our first keynote speaker, Alex Gaynor (core Django,
PyPy and CPython board member; PSF & DSF board member); our second
keynote presenter is confirmed, and we'll be announcing that in due
course.
- Our programme committee met on Friday, we've selected our programme
in its entirety. We have a great selection of local and international
speakers lined up. Speaker acceptances will go out shortly.
- We're finalising the details of our financial aid scheme. We hope
that this will make PyCon Australia more accessible to people who
could not otherwise afford to attend.

For those of you reading along at home, registrations are still open,
and we really want you to come along. This is going to be the biggest
PyCon Australia yet, and is going to feature one of the strongest
programmes of any regional PyCon anywhere -- all the details are up at

WordCamp Melbourne 2013

Well, we're a month out from the event and we're looking pretty good.

We have to date had 132 registrations
Our sponsorship roster is basically full and totals $19,800
We're well on target to make a profit, as at this stage we're expecting significant sales in the last 4 weeks, if previous events are anything to go by.

Our speakers list and program has been finalised and can be viewed on the website here <a href="http://2013.melbourne.wordcamp.org">http://2013.melbourne.wordcamp.org</a>.

Things still to do are finalize printing of shirts for speakers/community supporters.
Catering, particularly coffee (it's Melbourne, this is apparently, vital).

We're doing a walk through of the venue early tomorrow morning and should have a much better picture of how the venue is going to shape up now we have our schedule organized.

So all in all, I think we're on target!

WordCamp Melbourne 2013

Gosh, it really doesn't seem that long since the last report, but things are kicking along nicely for WordCamp Melbourne.

We're grateful for the advance from LA in the amount of $5000 to help pay our up front costs for venue hire. In a stunning display of holiday mode on behalf of RMIT (venue) we haven't actually been invoiced, so if you want to return that money to PyCon we won't be offended. We have been promised an invoice for next week... we'll see how that goes, as it is we'll have the cash in hand, because we're ahead of the game on sponsorship!

To date we have 2 Gold Sponsors, one being Melbourne IT under the banner of Web Central, the other being Code Poet, part of the WordPress Foundation.
We have 1 paid up silver sponsors, Site5, a hosting company, and two in the works we'll announce as their invoices are paid.
We also have 4 confirmed bronze sponsors, Eleven Media, Vroom Vroom Vroom, Dejan SEO, Run Pixel Run, in this category there are also others in the works and we'll announce those as they are paid up.

We have 8 Community sponsors confirmed as well, and 38 ticket sales a total of 48 paid tickets

We have approved 10 of the 20 speaker slots and will be closing speaking applications on Feb 15th.

All in all, good progress this month!

Thanks again for your support.
