About Linux Australia

Linux Australia is the peak body for Linux User Groups (LUGs) around Australia, and as such represents aproximately 5000 Australian linux users and developers.

  • Communication: Individuals who join Linux Australia directly participate in online discussions on mailing lists covering a range of topics and user communities. The Committee regularly posts reports and minutes, and makes personal contact with local Linux User Groups via State Communication Officers.
  • Participation: Members of the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) community participate in sub-committees and special interest groups (SIGs), or by standing for election to the Linux Australia committee.
  • Grants programme: Members may submit applications for funding for projects relevant to or beneficial to the Australian FOSS community.
  • Supporting Linux User Groups: Linux Australia takes out Public Liability Insurance on behalf of User Groups around Australia. LUGs are eligible to request cover for events such as install fests, expo stands and Software Freedom Day.
  • linux.conf.au: Linux Australia facilitates the organisation of an international Linux conference in a different Australasian city each year.

Linux Australia is voluntarily bound by the principles embodied by the articles of association, and undertakes to operate at all times in an open, transparent and democratic manner.
