Linux . conf . au NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Linux.conf.au 2003 draws record numbers. Perth, Western Australia (January 19, 2003) - Registrations for the national Linux conference, Linux.Conf.Au 2003, have closed online in a mad rush as punters secured their seats at this technically focused event. In a move prompted by the large number of registrations, organisers were forced to stop accepting professional registrations as the conference dinner exceeded the already large capacity envisaged. A final figure of 370 attendees has been achieved, which includes 40 speakers, representing a record size for this conference. "We're thrilled by the support we've been shown by the attendees", said Mr James Bromberger, Co-Chair of the conference, "to stage an event like this and have such a large number of people wishing to attend shows that the community using and developing Linux and Open Source based applications is very wide-spread." Of the delegates attending, 90% are from Australia, while a further 2% are from Japan and Nigeria respectively, and the rest of the USA, Germany, Spain, Denmark, New Zealand and Italy. 50% of the Australians are from Western Australia, while 16% are from New South Wales, 12% from Victoria, and 7% from each of the ACT, Queensland and South Australia. The Northern Territory and Tasmania are represented by a handful of people. "There is definitely a geographically diverse feel to the conference at this stage; it seems like we have a great mix of people coming together. International speakers have started to arrive in Perth, as have many delegates who are attending the independent 'mini-conferences' being held informally this Monday and Tuesday at The University of Western Australia. The main event, Linux.conf.au, starts early on Wednesday morning and runs until Saturday afternoon. Some on-the-day registrations will be available to those still wishing to attend, but organisers warn that at this late stage not all events will have space available.
