Rusty Wrench Award Nominations

The more astute of you may have noticed from the meeting minutes that the Council is bringing the Rusty Wrench Award out of retirement. Someone has even already updated the Wikipedia page!

Linux Australia Code of Conduct

The organisers of LCA 2012 and its parent organization, Linux
Australia, are sympathetic to concern from speakers and attendees
about whether LCA 2012 will have an official code of conduct. The
Linux Australia Council believe in the importance of making members
feel welcome and safe at our events, and are committed to continuing
to adopt an official code of conduct for all the conferences it runs
as well as the Linux Australia organization itself. In particular, a
code of conduct for LCA 2012 will be in place by the time conference
registration opens.

linux.conf.au domain

Howdy,

This announcement is a bit late in coming and the more astute of you may have noticed a mention or two in the council meeting minutes.

In August 2010 the auDA New 2LDs Advisory Panel handed over its recommendations to the auDA Board. One of the items under consideration was the fate of the conf.au 2LD.

In their final report [1] the advisory panel recommended that the conf.au domain should not be reactivated. However the report did make one other recommendation.

LCA 2013 - Formal bids request

Howdy,

The Linux Australia council is now requesting formal bid proposals for hosting LCA2013. You now have just under two months to prepare your bids and send them to the council and the community at large.

The bid process timeline is outlined below:

LCA2011 Friday Morning Keynote

On the last day of linux.conf.au 2011, Mark Pesce gave the final keynote entitled “Smoke Signals”. The slides and an essay based on the presentation are available on Mark's website.

After the keynote both the conference organising team and members of the Linux Australia council received complaints from attendees regarding some of the content and imagery in the presentation. The imagery in particular was of a nature that was upsetting to a number of viewers.

2011 Council Election

Nominations for the 2011 council election are now open. All current members may nominate another member or themselves for all positions. Candidates require two nominations for any position before they can accept that nomination. If you want to stand in the election or know someone who wants to stand, please nominate.

You can view details and nominate at: https://www.linux.org.au/membership/

Congratulations Penny!

Linux Australia is proud to announce that Penny Lyle is the winner of the complimentary ticket to linux.conf.au 2011 in Brisbane. Her name was chosen randomly from over 300 entries.

Congratulations, Penny!
